Celebrate Hiawatha’s 75th Birthday at the 2025 State of the City Event

HIAWATHA, Iowa (June 30, 2025) – The Hiawatha Economic Development Corporation (HEDCO) is proud to host the annual Hiawatha State of the City event on Tuesday, August 19, from 4:00–6:00 p.m. at McGrath Hyundai, 1040 N. Center Point Rd. in Hiawatha. This year’s event is special as the City of Hiawatha celebrates its 75th birthday, marking decades of growth and community strength.
With the theme “Hiawatha’s 75th Birthday: Reflecting its Past, Present and Future,” this year’s State of the City will reflect on Hiawatha’s transformation from its early beginnings to a thriving hub for families and business. Attendees will hear updates on economic development initiatives, business growth, and future plans that continue to shape Hiawatha’s momentum.
The event will feature remarks from Mayor Steve Dodson, HEDCO Chair Emily Kaiser, and a keynote address by Debi Durham, Director of the Iowa Economic Development Authority and the Iowa Finance Authority. Durham’s address will focus on the future of economic development in Hiawatha and the broader Cedar Rapids region.
“We’re excited to celebrate this milestone with our business community and honor the progress we’ve made together,” said Emily Kaiser, HEDCO Chair. “This event is not just a look back—but a bold look forward.”
Guests will enjoy a social hour with appetizers and cocktails, followed by the formal program. Tickets go on sale July 1 and can be purchased at the link below.
