Our annual educational event for local businesses and economic development leaders took place on September 2nd this year. The discussion focused on the growth and success of Hiawatha in its efforts to be one of the finest cities in the corridor while adapting to the economy, legislation, and citizens' demands. Mayor Bill Bennett will be provided an update on the State of the City, and HEDCO's Chair Mark Parmenter provided an Economic Development update. Our featured speaker was United States Congresswoman, Ashley Hinson; she will recapped and shared what the future holds for our economy as a whole and highlighted programming incentives that aid in strengthening our business communities as they navigate COVID and the recession. Our guest speaker was Senator Liz Mathis, who gave an update regarding economic development in the state of Iowa.

Hiawatha State of City Address 2020

The City of Hiawatha and HEDCO held the annual Hiawatha State of the City Address in July. This event has historically been attended by local business owners, community leaders, our State Representatives and citizens of our great city. Because of Covid-19, the July 2020 Address was conducted as a live webcast from Hiawatha, featuring Hedco’s Chair, Pat Callanan, Hiawatha Mayor Bill Bennett and special guest Debi Durham, Iowa’s Director of Economic Development and Finance Authority.
